Posted on September 22, 2010

Dear beautiful rose of human care!

I hope that Your dreams will be fulfilled today!

This time I have made an appeal for the threatened Afro-Descendants in Colombia. They, together with human rights defenders, is threatened by the paramilitaries and need Your help to make the authorities of Colombia aware of that, so that they will do something about it.

You can enter the President’s homepage: and paste the letter down below. If You’re not familiar with Spanish the different boxes is from the top:

Name, e-mail, street address, phone number, city (Your country as well), organization/company etc. You don’t have to fill everything in.

If You want to do some more, You can send it to the Colombian embassy of Your own country, which You can find here:

I thank You in advance and wish You a wonderful life today!

Dear President Santos,

It is with great concern that I am writing to You. It has come to my knowledge that the Afro-descendant communities are threatened by paramilitaries operating in western Colombia, some of them even killed. Furthermore, human rights activist from the human rights organization Inter-Church Commission of Justice and Peace (Comisión Inter-eclesial de Justicia y Paz), has also been threatened by the same forces.

Therefore I would like to:

  • Call on the authorities to guarantee the safety of members of the Collective Land Titles of Calima and San Juan and of Justicia y Paz through measures deemed appropriate by those under threat:
  • Demand a full and impartial investigation into the threats and killings with those responsible brought to justice;

  • Order a full and impartial investigation into the reported attempt on the life of Germán Marmolejo and ensure this investigation is carried out by the national office of the Attorney General in Bogotá;

  • Urge them to take immediate action to dismantle paramilitary groups, in line with stated government commitments and recommendations made by the UN and other intergovernmental organizations.

Yours Sincerely,
